The Revenge Artist The BreakUp Artist Book 2 eBook Philip Siegel
Last year I read and adored Philip Siegel's The Break-Up Artist. I found it to be funny, entertaining, and well-written with the perfect amount of depth. And most impressively, Siegel managed to keep Becca real, grounded, and likable despite all of her questionable choices. I couldn't help but cheer for Becca. The Break-Up Artist easily made my Favorite Debuts of the Year list for 2014. So I was obviously thrilled to read the sequel. Spoiler: It's just as wonderful as the first. After the events of last year, Becca Williamson has left the break-up business behind. But that doesn't mean that she's left for a typical high school job. Never. Becca has refashioned herself as a "relationship engineer." Instead of tearing couples apart, she helps bring them together. But while Becca is reveling in her success rate, plotting for graduation and college, and spending time with her boyfriend Fred and best friend Val, another Break-Up Artist enters the picture. And this time the relationship at the center of the targets is Becca's. There's no way Becca can leave these threats unanswered. That's just not in her nature.
I love Becca. She has a strong voice, and I love that the story is told from her point of view. She may have changed her tune about relationships, but she is still the somewhat manic character we grew to love in The Break-Up Artist. Plus, she still has a lot to learn about love. Becca is smart. She's capable. She's organized. She's got a head for business. She aspires to be a good friend and a good girlfriend. And this time around, she has the best of intentions. Problem is, she just doesn't always use her skills for good. She thinks she is, but, as I said, she still has a lot to learn about love. I love that Philip Siegel stayed so true to Becca's character.
The Revenge Artist takes place over the fall semester and ends at Christmastime. It is by no means a Christmas book, but if you like your seasonal reads to be a bit subtle, like I do, The Revenge Artist is the perfect book for this time of year.
The wit and humor of the first book is back in spades in the sequel. It's got some crazy antics, a mystery that has to be solved, and characters worth rooting for. I couldn't have been more pleased with this sequel.

The Revenge Artist The BreakUp Artist Book 2 eBook Philip Siegel Reviews
We enjoyed the first installment in this series, titled The Break-Up Artist, so when we were given the opportunity to read the latest book, we jumped at the change. It started out with the protagonist, Becca Williamson, setting up couples instead of tearing them apart. The process was just as detailed as when she was researching and implementing steps to breaking up couples.
The relationship that Becca has with her best friend, Val, is strained, which would make sense, given that Becca and Val's ex were together behind her back. It's this relationship that we see get to a point where the two lose contact, with much of the interaction between the two of them reads forced, almost too much for the situation. But more than this relationship, it's the one Becca has with her boyfriend, Fred, that plays out center stage in the story.
He confesses to her that he loves her, but she can't say it back, doesn't feel it and it's almost like she puts up a wall between the two of them. What makes this so powerful is that the author is bringing up issues that most readers this age can understand and relate to. She doesn't want to say something she doesn't mean, and most people nowadays will say those three words just to placate a partner to keep things from being awkward.
But more than that, Fred applies to the same school as her, which makes her feel trapped and cornered, which is a very real, very true circumstance that those heading off to school with a significant other deal with. It's after we get this news that the true plot of the story hits center stage. The couples that Becca is matching up are starting to get torn apart. The search for the Revenge Artist begins, leading Becca down a path that makes her lose friends and threatens her relationship.
The author is able to create a pace and flow that fits well to the story he's telling, and makes it appealing to the reader. While it picks up in places of intense drama, it slows down for the moments that need a little more time and attention. And what we really enjoyed about this installment in the series was the way in which the Revenge Artist targets Becca. They use the same tricks and ideas she used in the previous book, giving Becca a taste of her own medicine. The methods go a step further, turning up the creep factor, giving this book a different feel from the first one.
Throughout the book, there's always one question on our minds who is the Revenge Artist?
We get snippets and clues leading us in different directions, and the author really did this part well. He never gave anything away that would give the reader a solid idea of just who it was. At the start, we have a pretty good idea of who we think it is, and hen a third of the way into the book, we think it's someone else, but by the end, probably two or three other people can be thought of as the Revenge Artist, but we were definitely surprised wit who it turned out to be. For an author to be able to do that, it's pretty impressive.
After that part of the puzzle is solved, the ending is very rushed, like the author just wanted to finish the book as soon as possible, which make the ending less than what it could be. The impact is lessened tremendously. We would have very much liked to see where Becca went as a character, and how the rest of the year finished out for her instead of a dead stop after a very quick, almost forced reunion with one of the other prominent characters.
Overall, The Revenge Artist was a great read, and one we'd definitely recommend. While we did have some issues with it, they were outweighed by all the positive aspects this book had to offer. And if you haven't read the first installment, The Break-Up Artist, you should definitely check it out.
The Revenge artist is the sequel to the Break-Up Artist. It could possibly be read as a standalone. But it continues the story from the first book.
This book is a Young Adult contemporary mystery with some romance. The narrator is high school senior Becca.
In the first book Becca was the Break-Up Artist (she would break up couples for a fee). Now she has a boyfriend and has turned her life around. She is now a relationship engineer (she will find a way to match potential clients with their crushes for a fee).
This is actually sort of a fun concept. The girl who used to break up couples is now charging money to bring couples together. I definitely enjoyed this aspect of the book. Becca is a smart girl and I loved reading about all of her schemes.
It was definitely interesting for Becca to have a boyfriend in this book. The only bad part was that it had been so long since I read the first book that I really did not remember Fred very well. But there is enough information in this book that by the end I was very clear about all things Fred.
In this book there is a Revenge Artist out for revenge. Becca receives mysterious messages. The couples she has set-up start being sabotaged. This mystery was a key component to the story and I thought that it was extremely intriguing. It was definitely an interesting mystery. Even though I strongly suspected the guilty party this book was still a satisfying and really cute YA mystery.
